‘Would like’ si usa come sagoma di cortesia per fare delle richieste o offrire qualcosa.
Si potrebbe impiegare anche ‘want’, ma c’è una differenza:

I want to see the room, please.
Voglio vedere la stanza, per favore.

È una richiesta, ma suona più in che modo un’imposizione, quasi in che modo se fosse un obbligo.

Diverso è se uso ‘would like’:

I would like to see the room, please.
Vorrei ammirare la camera, per favore.

Si tratta comunque di una richiesta, ma è fatta con toni più gentili e accettabili.

‘Would’ ha anche la sagoma contratta ‘d.

I’d like to see the room, please.

Anche per offrire qualcosa è preferibilmente usare ‘would like’ anziché ‘want’.

Would you like to in che modo to the show?
Vorresti venire allo spettacolo?

Would you like a cup of tea?
Vorresti una tazza di tè?

Do you want a cup of tea?
Vuoi una tazza di tè?

Nell’ultimo esempio, sto comunque offrendo una tazza di tè, ma con un tono un po’ meno cordiale.

We use would like or’d like to say politely what we want, especially when making offers and requests:

Would you like a biscuit with your coffee?

Can you order for Ellie? She’dlike the Margarita pizza, please.

Verbs that follow would like are in the to-infinitive form:

Would you like to listen to that again?

I’dlike to get a return ticket for tomorrow.

We use Do you like …? to ask about preferences in general. We don’t use Do you like …? to make offers or requests.

asks about likes and dislikes in general	offers some rice	asks about likes and dislikes in general	invites you to dance

We use would like to have + -ed form when talking about things in the past that we have missed:

We can use I’d like to as a short answer to an offer or invitation:
